The Vestry of Grace is the Church’s governing body of lay members. The Rector serves at the pleasure of the Vestry and the two serve in a relationship much like a CEO and Board of Directors. The Vestry meets each month on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:30pm in person or on Zoom, and guests or parishioners are welcome to attend and observe.

Vestrypersons serve a three-year term, and each year we invite parishioners and members in good standing to nominate themselves to stand for Vestry during our Annual Meeting in January.

From within the Vestry or outside the Vestry, the Rector also calls and nominates the Officers of the parish: Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer and Clerk. These are 1-year terms, renewable at the Annual Meeting upon approval from the congregation.

From the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (D.C.): “You might think serving on a Vestry is like serving on a board of a nonprofit. They do share similarities: both are entrusted with the well-being of the organization each serves; both have officers; and both must abide by bylaws. A church vestry and a nonprofit board differ in one central way. The vestry is charged with the sacred task of the mission of the Church – “to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 854). The ministry of the vestry is to help the congregation grow into the full stature of Christ and share the gospel with its neighbors.”
